Today marks day 3 on my roadtrippin’ excursion away from home.
First of all, a confession: I am totally the kind of person that will sneak up on people for a good photo. In this case, a wedding party. I was wandering around the Capitol Building in Sacramento and came across a bride, a groom and a beautiful red convertible. I ran over with excitement. I kept a respectable distance. I snapped a few photos and got a great “behind the scenes” shot of their photo shoot. I love the photographer laying on the ground in the foreground of the photo. It reminds me of the lengths my friends and I go for a good photo
While not snapping photos in Sacramento, I went shopping. I was on the hunt for boots (after borrowing Judy’s for an extended amount of time, she suggested I find some of my own). I planned on spending up to $100, but ending up scoring some vintage black leather boots for $20 at an awesome 80′s-lovin’ vintage store. They “fit me like a glove,” one girl said. The chick that helped me at the counter looked like she could have been in a David Bowie video. Loved her bright pink hair and sometimes wish I had the balls to dye my golden locks a similar shade.
Had some great conversations with new people, including a clerk at a boutique who is from Arcata and trying to make it back. I love how Arcatans can find each other anywhere in the world in less than ten minutes. Is must be something in the water?
Anyway, Karen and I have been staying at her studio apartment in Midtown. It’s great. John and his friends Luiz and Inga (from Germany – so badass!) met up with us yesterday afternoon to wander on foot around Sac. I swear, we walked at least sixty blocks. Whew. Joe Shreve (aka Shrevasaur) drove over from Santa Cruz for a Humboldt reunion and we mingled around the city for a few cocktails and an evening snack before venturing back to have a little slumber party action in Karen’s studio.
It was so cute seeing everyone’s sleeping bags all lined up in a row. I resisted the urge to take a photo. I’ve found people don’t usually like getting the paparazzi treatment at 3 a.m. unless they are in a ballgown singing karaoke or climbing a tree barefoot or something equally as exciting.
Most of the crew left Sacramento today. Karen and I have been watching an old Fox show called Arrested Development like mad women (it’s so funny – definitely recommend if you like dysfunctional family comedies) and are taking a break to do some writing and watch funny videos on Youtube.
Tomorrow, we are traveling to meet up with John in Berkeley at his new studio he scored last week. We’re going to head into San Francisco to do some more exploring and hopefully meet up with Luiz and Inga before we head back home on Tuesday.
